Providence Village is a great example of a modern Texas town, built from the ground up with a specific vision in mind. Unlike many older communities that grew organically from a historic town square or a rail line, Providence Village was deliberately designed as a master-planned community.
The Village’s History
The story of Providence Village doesn’t stretch back for centuries. It’s a relatively new community that really got its start in the year 2000 when a developer, Huffines Communities, began work on the project. To fund the necessary infrastructure like roads and utilities, they created a special taxing entity.
For the first decade of its existence, the community was an unincorporated area of Denton County. As the number of homes grew and more families moved in, residents started thinking about having more control over their own community. The idea of incorporating began to pick up steam around 2008.
Residents wanted to form their own town for a few key reasons. They wanted to have more say in things like safety and police services, protect their property values, and keep their tax revenue within their community. A group of dedicated volunteers worked to make this happen, gathering signatures and working with local officials. In 2010, the effort paid off. The people of Providence Village voted to incorporate, officially becoming a Type A municipality. They held their first election shortly after, choosing a mayor and council to guide the new town.
What It’s Like Today
Today, Providence Village is a vibrant and rapidly growing town in Denton County. It’s a place where you’ll find a lot of young families and a welcoming atmosphere. The homes are often designed in a modern take on traditional styles like Cape Cod and Craftsman, giving the neighborhoods a distinctive and charming look.
The town is known for its focus on community and amenities. You’ll find a number of parks, a large community lake, and even two waterparks for residents to enjoy. The town council and residents are still actively involved in planning for the future, with ideas for new trails and shared recreational spaces.
Because it’s a newer community, Providence Village doesn’t have a traditional “downtown” with historic buildings. Instead, its identity is built around a family-friendly, suburban lifestyle. The town is situated off of Highway 380, providing easy access to larger cities like Denton and Frisco, where many residents commute for work
