Tucked away in Collin County, just north of Dallas, you’ll find the charming and unique town of Fairview, Texas. It’s the kind of place that feels like a country escape while still having all the perks of a big city right around the corner.
History of a “Town” 🤠
Fairview’s story begins back in the late 1800s, rooted in the rolling countryside that gave it its name—the “fair view.” The arrival of the Houston & Texas Central Railroad in 1872 played a big part in its early development, helping farmers transport their goods. The community remained a quiet, rural area for decades. In 1958, residents of two small communities, Fairview and Wetsel, came together to vote on incorporation. The “Corporation” side won by a landslide, with 48 out of 50 votes, and the Town of Fairview was officially born. Even today, they prefer to be called a “town” rather than a “city,” which really speaks to their goal of maintaining a tight-knit community feel.
What Makes Fairview Special? ✨
Fairview is known for a few key things that set it apart from other Dallas suburbs:
- Keeping it Country: The town is famous for its large homes on expansive lots, with plenty of open spaces and even horse farms. You’re just as likely to see a horse or a longhorn as you are a car on some of the roads.
- The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary: This 289-acre sanctuary is a local treasure, offering miles of trails through various ecosystems. It’s a perfect spot for families and nature lovers to get outside and explore.
- A “Dark Sky” Ordinance: In a unique move to combat light pollution, Fairview has adopted a “Dark Sky” ordinance. This means residents can enjoy a better view of the stars at night, which is a rare treat so close to a major city.
- Top-Tier Schools: Fairview is served by the Lovejoy Independent School District, which is consistently ranked as one of the best public school districts in Texas.
- The Best of Both Worlds: Despite its rural feel, Fairview has a major commercial hub at its border with Allen and McKinney, known as the Fairview Town Center and The Village at Fairview. This means you’ve got tons of shopping, dining, and entertainment options without ever having to venture too far from home.
